In Africa and particularly West Africa there was a strong Muslim community, Mansa Musa from present day Mali, the richest man on earth to date (worth $400 billion in today's money), was a Muslim. The thriving communities were Muslim, not all obviously but if you are in the Americas there is a strong possibility that your ancestors were Muslim.
