Isn't it crazy that ownership was LOOKED DOWN UPON like 10-15 years ago?

Like 10 years ago, if you were an independent artist... You were considered a loser who couldn't get a record deal

If you dropped out to be an entrepreneur, you were a fukking loser

If you didnt make it to the NBA and sign with Nike or some cac corporation, you were a loser.

If you couldn't get a good job working for white folks... You were a fukking loser.

Its crazy how things flipped.... Now the signed artists wanna be independent... The nikkas with degrees wanna figure out how to make money on their own... Ball players want their own brands.... nikkas want their own record labels and streaming services and basketball leagues now.

I can't believe the boss minded nikkas were LOSERS 10 years ago

Um no, going back to at least Master P, independent successful rappers have been generally lauded. 10-15 years ago you had guys like Slim Thug who were also getting it and lauded for it.

The 'record deal' was still always the big goal for most artists.

Kinda still is.

Things changed tho.... Thanks to the internet

Because people are lost and just go with trends, a lot of people are sheep, a bunch of followers.

The app game, cryptos, crowdfunding etc is what influenced this new mind state. Nobody really wants to work for somebody else, only a few actually don't mind.

The only reason entrepreneurship is promoted so heavy today is because the Internet. You can get more done for cheaper thru the Internet and the Internet has destroyed industries while creating new ones. The notion of being with one company in the mail room and working your way to the top and retiring with a gold watch is over

Where is this narrative coming from? Black entrepreneurs have always been lauded in the black community. shyt, Furious in Boys in the Hood was breaking this shyt down in 93. People always looked up to Oprah, Diddy, Suge and P because they owned their own shyt. Every dude wanted a deal so that they could leverage that into owning their own record label. Where I'm from in NC, we had our black wall street in Durham NC and guys like Herman Russell, Reginald Lewis , Robert Johnson and Booker T were seen as the prototypes. This is one Coli narrative that needs to die because it just ain't true. Every new era thinks they reinvented the wheel.

You were just hanging with the wrong people, my mother was telling me about ownership ever since I was young.

Only people who cared about being Rappers and NBA players were people in school. After you got out of school, no one was thinking like that.

If they were successful they weren’t losers, the real losers are the ones looking down on them for not going the traditional route.

If you think about it... Theres still people in 2018 who look down on ownership and act like its a pipe dream.

But back then, I remember it was way worse.

Like you HAD TO go the traditional route or you were a failure.... Until you succeeded obviously.

Now we got 19 year olds making 100k and shyt so the haters arent as vocal

i used to force people to be interested in the early 90s but a lot thought DOS was too complicated.
