listening to illmatic for the first time in a while.. I was struck by how impersonal it was. illmatic is pure emceeing at its best and nas paints a gritty picture of queensbridge (and by extension nyc as a whole). the dopeheads, the ends, the corrupted youth, the actions & consequences, etc. but nas rarely ever gets personal. he doesn't really put himself out there, he's just speaking on the things he's seen growing up in such a hectic environment
