Isn't it weird how Kobe's career kind of eclipsed Lebron's

I watched the NBA all star game, and seeing all this celebration for Kobe's retirement, and thinking like, damn he was still thought of as one of the best players even in his last year :patrice:. Even got more shine than Lebron this year

Kobe came in 1996, retiring in 2016. He's seen and been through about 3 basketball generations, and even more famous and recognized than Lebron, and this is supposed to be Lebron's era

Lebron came in 2003, like 7 or 8 years after Kobe, and now getting overshadowed by the new era of players. Durant, Westbrook, Kawhai, Curry, etc etc

Plus I'm not even sure Lebron can last 20 years like Kobe. 5 years ago, it was Lebron that would be on the sportscenter highlights 24/7, being interviewed every week of what he ate for breakfast. Now it seems like he's being overshadowed by younger stars and a 37 year old Kobe. Like why is that? :mindblown:

A few things

1. Like you said, Kobe has been at it 20 years, of course he's going to be more "beloved" and revered than Bron.

2. Bron, as great as he is, doesn't really have many iconic and memorable games and moments on the court that leaves you with this lasting impression when you think of him. I know a lot of people refer to game 6/7 against the Spurs in 2013, but even that doesn't hold a candle in comparison to the memorable moments Kobe has in his career.

3. "Only" having two tiles doesn't "help" him either. How does it hurt? It just seems though as great as he is, "only" have two titles at this point of his career seems like an underachievement if that makes sense.

4. Bron, in my opinion, image is taking a bit of a hit in a weird way again because of some of the decisions he's made and how much of a egomaniac and control freak with personnel decisions he is off the court coming to light. I think that has began to turn people off from him and want to see him fail again rather than succeed.

Just my opinion :yeshrug:

Bron is still the most discussed player in the NBA. Not a day goes by that you don't hear his name on ESPN or the other sports networks. Of course Kobe is getting praise as he should but when Bron retires he will get this same type of retirement tour too.

Bron will have his time but right now it's a celebration of Kobe:blessed:.

Wait 5 year when Lebron calls it quits. ESPN will make sure their boy is fed

I hope so. I don't want it to seem like a stan thread rooting for either Kobe or Lebron

I only stan for Paul Pierce, Wade, and Chris Paul. Those my nikkas :mjcry:

I actually think it's the other way around
That's what I said just looking at the title. LeBron has been more dominant, consistent, efficient, and more reliable in the playoffs/finals. Better peak and prime player easily as well. Kobe has longevity and accolades but I'm sure LeBron will be building a nice longevity case of his own soon.
