It's not really ingenious more like a standard if you want to maximize your profits. I don't think you can amass hundreds of millions of dollars as an owner in a large corporation by being moralistic and trying to pay your employees high wages especially if there's a line of people willing to do the work for much less. Cutting corners, treating workers like their disposal pawns, outsourcing jobs etc is all part of the game and it has been for a long time.

Wages are dictated by market forces

Wages are low for many jobs because of globalization, there's some dude in china or Mexico willing to do these manual labor jobs for pennies on the dollar

White middle class people are some of the most clueless people in this country. Give them a few fidget spinners, hot pockets, iphones and their good to go. But it's been like that since the industrial period. And the system made them that way look up one guy named Edward Bernays. He essential laid out the foundation to what you see today. But the name of the games has always been to minimize cost and maximize profits.

Don't forget dumbing down the population with a horrible education system. BTW, slavery is still an integral part of America. In 1865, slavery was transferred from private sector to the public sector.
No private citizen could own a slave, only the state could.
That's why 13% of the population makes up more than 50% of the prisoners (slaves) even though the white population are arrested 70% of the time.
