we are in a consolidation period, it doesn't make sense to be investing in a new streaming service when streamers are merging, cutting content to lower costs, and raising prices. even "free" services like tubi and pluto are owned by fox and paramount.

Somebody is out there on their own. She can do the HW and find them and partner up if she wants to go that route.

There’s been a push back on black content this past year or so. You see it in music.

I know there’s new rules on billboard affecting other genres of music but rap is the only genre that’s getting criticized for that and country is all of a sudden the hot genre in America :mjpls:

Again…she should be making AFRICA based content.

What is your problem dude. You aren't even black saying shyt like this, jumping on whichever trend you think has the engagement. fukkouttahere

She was born in LA and spent most of his childhood in America. And the "awkward white or minority girl" shyt she's known for remains heavily popular within social media and culture. It's literally the same lane a lot of women creatives are doing. The problem? It rarely translates to popular television. Amazon Prime gave Phoebe Waller-Bridge a shyt ton of money to develop another show like Fleabag and she hasn't produced one. Mindy Kaling is on that same wave and nothing she has produced has been a hit. More recently, Ayo Edebiri is on the same shyt. And while she's great she hasn't been able to establish herself as a big main actress or producer.

These type of shows were in high demand in the 2010s for streamers because building #diversity was important. They handed a shyt ton of money to women show runners and got nothing in return. Subscriber numbers went up, no one really watched those shows...so now Netflix relegates their diversity focus to pure algorithm shyt. Oh, Asian people are watching a lot of horror movies? Let's make a horror movie with Asian leads. That's how shyt works now and the end result is slop content instead of premier television.

I’ve proven I’m black. :camby:

Despite being “born” in LA, She spent like the first decade of her life in Maryland ::camby:

Anyways…her complaining is itself a signal that things are even more “real” than she’s saying things are. It takes a lot for someone to admit this.

All I’m saying is that she has money and a name. She can do a lot and it seems she still is waiting for someone to come save her.

I'm sorry, are you unaware that Maryland is in the United States? So why would she make shows about Africa. Please explain for the class.

She's a writer looking for someone to finance her shyt. That's normal. The problem, as mentioned many times in this thread, is that her style of shyt is no longer viewed as super important by streamers. Sure someone will always take a swing on shows about awkward kids growing up in America. Or awkward women moving to the big city for their first professional job. But the demand is FAR lower than it was in say 2014. Streamers are more likely to just remake something with a black/Asian/Hispanic/etc cast, or greenlight some vulgar show full of stereotypes.

Her future is basically what happened to Lena Dunham. You go from the hot new writer to showrunner to networks realizing wait a minute....nobody cares about this shyt besides TV critics. Dunham has gotten a couple Netflix things made recently, including a film and TV show nobody watches. I'd imagine Rae will get her streamer bag at some point. But make no mistake, the end is nigh. Especially after that rap show flopped on Max.

Her family is Sengalese and so is her husband. She has a unique background she can exploit.

I’m just saying she isn’t lacking source material here

Aye all these Black actors, writers, producers, camera folk and all that, and ain't nobody hittin' up OWN, Aspire, Bounce, TVOne with original content? I mean, y'all so guapped up and got all these connects and ain't puttin' no new blunts in rotation?

even worse they're scarred to create their own app with all original content. they could get deals from advertisers to where the actors in the productions own a piece of the show for the time they put in if they can't pay heavily out the gate. ms is too scared to create and spend they own on good work.

OPRAH WINFREY tried this and failed with OWN. She sold it so quick because it wasn't making any money and she was coming out of pocket to fund the network.

This post is funny for numerous reasons. There’s truth in this post, she may have been too black for the top heads. She openly put on and went hard for blacks, and yet black people are in this thread shytting her
:wow:

Hah, you should look into her history more. She did not like Black folk like that for a long minute.
