Under the proposal by the Republican Study Committee, individuals who purchase coverage approved for sale in their state could claim a deduction of $7,500 against their income and payroll taxes, regardless of the cost of the insurance. Families could deduct $20,000.

The commitment of $25 billion over 10 years to defray the cost of coverage for high-risk patients would ease a problem caused when funding provided under Obama's plan ran out. Premiums in the high-risk pools would be capped at twice the average cost of insurance sold in the state.

Individuals with pre-existing conditions who already have coverage would generally be permitted to shift existing insurance without fear of losing it.
Officials said the legislation contains no provision to assure insurance coverage for millions of lower-income Americans who are scheduled under current law to be enrolled in Medicaid, a state-federal health care program for the poor.

I like the idea of government taking less of your money if you have purchased healthcare over Obamacare, but i'm not sure it will go far enough to move independents...

Smart approach, but very, very, late.
I like the thought of tax breaks instead of fines. If they would've brought this up when it meant something we would probably have a good Bipartisan healthcare law and the tea party wouldn't exist. Win Win for the GOP

I dont see how it can... but even if it did, it would still be morally wrong. IMO
Same arguments were made against social security and medicare after they called it a tax.

I belive business will find ways to make it work, then if republicans come in and repel it they would be wipped out

of course it doesn't work...implementation will be a disaster(just like SS) but just like every major policy change in American life..folks work around it. We deal with bad laws everyday in our life, this won't be any different.

If people with pre-exisiting conditions get healthcare and republicans dare through this law out they are damaged goods for years to come.
