we may know more in certain areas (alot has happened in science and technology since his death) but we definitely aren't smarter.
We, meaning the majority of human beings, but there are a few out there just as bright as he was.

we are not smarter... we have obtained more knowledge
but the average person doesn't know how a tv, car or microwave works any better than einstein.. but if you told us both, i bet he'd figure out the concept a lot faster and be able to do more with the information... that's being smarter
