It's crazy how much quality and even CGI has changed since 2006

I used to rock the Caesar avi for the first movie it was only right for me to continue that tradition with the second movie. If they went practical efx for these new movies I wouldn't have mind either as long as the quality of the films are good. I'am down with that. I am an old school head I used like how the apes looked in that old Tarzan movie called Greystoke having Rick Baker doing the make up and the practical effects for the apes. Movie wasn't the greatest but looking back I used to like it and watch it every time it was on cable as a child.

Yeah they work good for the time but you could clearly never include all of the subtlties and expressions they accomplished with mo-cap and CGI. Wouldnt have had nearly the same impact.
not watching ape movies >>> watching ape movies :manny:
New Ape movie is better than anything you've seen this year.

When's the last time you watched the movie?

The first Brachiasaurus is the only thing in the entire film that looks dated. Its not even bad, just kind of washed out in respect to the rest of the colors.

The T-Rex rain scene and Raptors in the kitchen looks as good today as they did in '93.
no coincidence the Brachiasauras scene was the only one that 100% cgi

the other scenes were a mixture.
But just shows that modern day films overreliance on cgi is what is holding them back.
they need to use both the get the most realistic effect.

Actually it is a coincidence, especially seeing as there were no closeup shots in the scene that would call for puppets/animatronics. All the long shots of the Trex and the Raptors were 100% cgi and are flawless.

This is great so far, thanks for posting. Learning alot.

Hopefully the smaller SFX companies will find a price model to get residuals on movie sales and dvd sales like the Hollywood studios do one day. I doubt it would happen with them greedy ass movie studios. The only ones with unlimited budgets seems to be WETA and ILM.

This isn't really a black or white issue.. some shyt like Jurassic Park or even T2 held up FOREVER and still does. But, what they've done in say Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is some crazy shyt too..

I do miss a lot of the older techniques. Some movies from the mid 2000's have already fallen off. Go watch Spider-Man 2. I loved that movie when it came out but the CGI looks pretty bad now.. :manny:
