Its crazy how people turned on Metal Gear Solid 4

I play Metal Gear so I could fall in love with the characters and hate my country while doing it.

MGS 4 brought the story together. Before 4 the storyline was sloppy at best. The events in 4 explained everything that was going on behind the scenes and filled in a lot of the gaps that were left in the previous games. Gameplay wise it was best in the series. What kills MGS 4 for me was the long trench coat chapter looking for Big Mama. Hideo Kojima will always have silly elements in his games, that's just the way he is. A lot of people give this game a hard time because of the card board box, and cheesy conversations but that's just Kojima's goofiness, and something MGS fans have come to expect. He has fun juxtaposing the realism with complete ridiculousness. Personally I put the main games in the following order: MGS1, MGS3, MGS4, MGS2.

The game has zero replay value because the story doesn't make any fukking sense.

The story for the entire series doesn't make and sense. It wasn't pre-planned they just make it up as they go along and when they make a mistake they just retcon it later.

I thought it was good, but my least favorite MGS by far.

I think it got overhyped due to its pedigree and the fact that it was an exclusive game. Once the original excitement wore off and people really anylyzed it, it was plain to see that Kojima missed with this one. Sloppy convoluted story even for MGS standards, too many cutscenes, none of the classic quirky moments that made the series so appealing to a lot of people.

What you were left with is a very shallow uninspired game.

Game falls right the fukk apart at act 3 with that tailing bullshyt.

Best redeeming things about the game is the return to Shadow Moses and the final boss.

Returning to shadow moses with the young snake mask made it worth the price of admission alone.

That said, I will willingly play any other game in the series (even the msx one) before that one.

MGS3 is still the best in the series IMO. I won't shyt on MGS4 but it could have been much better than what it was. To an extent I feel it came out during a time when interactive movie games were being a lot of attention (Heavy Rain for example).

Not that it influenced Kojima but the amount of cutscenes compared to actual gameplay feels like they just wanted Solids story to be over (that and the many prequels we got based on Big Boss). One thing I will give credit to mgs4 is for this:

Game was ok to me. I thought it was the most overrated PS3 game out. I felt MGS3 was way better.

Vamp was so watered down. In MGS2 he was running on water, swimming fast as a fish, swimming in zero buoyancy water, running up buildings, jumping several 100s of feet into the air, binding people by their shadows. Then in MGS4 all he could do was survive headshots wtfOther than that and Liquid Ocelot's "True" identity, MGS4 is a great game.

I never had an issue with the long cutscenes but there wasn't much levels to be played

this is the problem. but the actual gameplay and graphics are piff to this day. I played thru it a few times. trying both stealth and going commando, since u have the option with this game.
