Check out this convo i had with my Jay Z stan friend its kind of comical the way he sees his music, i sent him the last paragraph of the rapreviews review of the magna carta album that basically sums up Jay Z as brag rap without much depth except for a few instances this is how he replied
Stan: Some truth to that. But, also sounds like some ranting from ppl who ALREADY believe that's all he talks about and went into the album expecting that so that's what they picked up on. Kinda like when reaeaechers r set on proving a point so that make studies catered to proving their point. Like YOU who quickly listened to it and already had your previous opinion just reinforced. Like I said thi, def some truth to it and he makes a good point that it is because Jay is ACTUALLY living that life. However, I completely disagree on the production. I think it is fantastic and one of his best. I can listen to the album straight through and in typical jay z fashion, the more you listen the more you pick up on the depth that isn't just about the flashy stuff. Even when he does talk about the flashy stuff he somehow connects it to deeper thoughts, like he brags about beyonce in one interlude and yea he's bragging but he's also making it cool to be loyal to one woman versus a playboy. Quick examples, the opening talk in #fukkwitmeigotit . Also cool that he downplays Molly usage in Tom ford. A flashy song yet a good message for kids who obviously idolize him. The songs crown, oceans, nickel and dimes, jay z blue, heaven. Off the top of my head those all go way deeper than just bragging about his wealth. But, in typical jay z fashion, his metaphors r so slick that they fly by most people's heads especially if you don't listen to the album over and over before making an assumption.
My Reply: So your saying low key Jay z is promoting the Christian message of monogamy and is telling kids to stay away from drugs ? lmao So i guess lets get this album out to kindergartners and distribute it among catholic schools nationwide haha
