White supremacists were the ones treating anyone who didn't look exactly like them as second-or-below citizens.
Black people only adopted it to discern people who have some degree of melanin or not.

White supremacy is the real problem. The one-drop rule is just a reaction by minorities to define who is who...and even then the one-drop rule doesn't tell you anything since anything NOT-white is seen is "black"...when its not even that simple across the shade of skin in humanity.
Allot of blacks however , whenever a biracial person says they're mixed will be quick to say "but u still black"
