It’s kinda wild how big the “Travis Scott” brand has become

:dwillhuh: Like I can’t be the only one perplexed by this. His name brand has far surpassed his artistry. Travis Scott doesn’t sell the most records, he doesn’t make the best critically acclaimed albums. I mean he’s very dope and creative but this nikka has branding with:

Mcdonalds
PlayStation
Nike/Jordan
His own energy drink
Dior
And now a production deal with a24

Im not hating, I’m just genuinely interested in how and when he became the biggest name in hip hop.

travis has his hand in the pocket of the top spending consumer demographics in hip hop, a lot of which overlap

the hypebeast crowd, the teenage/college age white kids w money to blow about dumb shyt, and quiet as kept a lot of the "mumble rap isnt real rap" type geeks fukk w son too

none of his music is political (or has any type message at all but thats a different conversation) so brands see him as the most feasible way to reach over into these demographics with the least amount of risk - its no history of him speaking on race, colorism, virtue signaling, or dumb shyt in the way that rocky got jammed when he was on that trajectory

add that to his connections from ye to the kardashians to the fact that his family was connected as well

Dude has probably the most cosigns and connections of anyone in the industry and it started super early into his career. Also the guy is a blank canvas. He can be molded into anything and succeed (so it seems)

add to that making pretty good music and an aesthetic that is SUPER appealing to the early teens/late 20s demographic and you’ve got a recipe for success

the only thing I can’t figure out is the guy has no real public persona :mjlol:
like WHO is Travis Scott :mjtf:

Who cares? :pachaha:

I've been listening to dude since Owl Pharoah. I knew the kids were going jump on his shyt heavy. He had that super dark, evil adjacent style that made him seem like the mysterious bad guy.

On top of that, he had TI's backing, then he got the Kanye and Jay co-sign, after that it was lights out.

I don’t care personally but usually in order to be somewhat mainstream you gotta have somewhat of a public personality :russ:

Him and Drake do the same shyt. Can be seen at sporting events and that’s it. Travis probably does a little more with random pop ups with little notice of locations; also headlines many festivals. Drake doesn’t unless it’s OVO Fest/Touring.

That may be the case now, but before 2015 Drake was all over the place in the mainstream doing shyt.

He’s the typical Black kid that grew up in the burbs and I think that’s his appeal he doesn’t really get to deep with his lyrics (though he has coffee which is a fairly introspective song) he doesn’t talk about hood shyt, struggling, politics, etc he just talks about partying, getting lit etc and I think that’s what makes him relatable just like Drake.

You can be a white kid in Idaho or serbia, a Indian from Toronto etc and you can relate to his songs.
