It's an easier standard than booth rental.I've always wondered why.
Large tips should be reserved for large groups.
If me and my girl decide to get the most expensive thing on the menu, why should my tip be any more than what I'd be expected to pay if we just got salads??
Usually the more expensive the meal, the more courses you've had. The more courses you have the more time you stay. The more time you stay, the less table turns a customer has.
From another perspective, the more money you spend, you're likely having better items, if you're having better items you likely have a better experience, or if you weren't familiar were guided there by your server/somaliere. As a result you're tipping more for a better overall service experience.
