Another thing, I think says so much about "American" cultural values in in terms of inequality is how it's socially acceptable to NOT tip, or create a "Hunger Games" scenario for the server, "oh, no water refill, she's not getting a tip", I don't even pay attention to the service for the most part, and I'll tip the max or close, regardless. It's beneath me to try to assert "power" over someone less financially secure then me, I see these traits in friends, even women I've gone out with, and I'm less and less tolerant and more and more disgusted. A bunch of privileged yuppies feeling secure and self important when someone is fetching their drinks, making them feel powerful, even worse when the person used to be in the service industry, it's like self hate, and they are the most calculated and cruel with their behavior in many instances. "Well, I had to do the same thing".

I tip twenty percent every time for a number of reasons. One, I try to help alleviate the stereotype that black people don't tip. Two, I don't go out to eat at a sit down restaurant every day, its like once every 2-3 weeks so it's nothing for me to give someone $10 on a $50 meal or whatever it is. Three, it's not that fukking serious. If you don't want to tip people, take your broke ass to McDonalds and eat their rubber burgers. You're not cute. Choosing to go to a restaurant and not tip is obnoxious.

I'm very quick to change waiters at the first sign of disrespect though. I know I'm taking the risk of having my food fondled with but, since I typically pay waiters I expect to not get bad service because they have preconceived notions about black people. If I even feel like they have that sort of attitude, I go up to the manager and get the waiter changed quickfast. I had to do that at Hard Rock Cafe once. Shorty got mad at me because I put her on front street in front of her manager like it was MY fault that she was acting like she had a problem serving black customers. They gifted me a free plate of wings + a taco salad :lolbron: maybe I had dingle berries in my food, maybe not...but the next waiter waited on me hand and foot and I tipped her good. Kinda left a bad taste in my mouth because it felt like I was tipping to prove to them my money was good enough for their restaurant but, like I said earlier, maybe in the future it changes the perception for other black customers. Hopefully.

They don't work harder than food servers.

Not even close.
But you are ONLY talking about hard labor here.
Having both technology knowledge & product knowledge is another skillset.

Hard labor requires less investment into oneself.
Thats why hard labor has always been less paid.

If you could make the same money working at Best Buy as you could waiting tables then no one would want to wait tables.

You are reaching so much here it's not even funny.

the internet
It works in Australia and they have many world class restaurants.
there are nice restaurants in Europe too.

But on average...the service you get in the States is unmatched.
I used to work in the service industry...and have been to many countries.

Trust me...people from outside of this country are caught off guard by the service here.
If we went to a more European style of dining...people in this country would go crazy.

People from other countries expect to sit there and wait for shyt to come to them.
Americans arent used to it.

if tipping is just too damn much and too inconvenient for you
go to fast food or golden corral or the chinese buffet or something

nobody is forcing anyone to go to tipped/wait service restaurants

when waiters are given incentive you receive better service.

if you pay them a flat wage that means they have no incentive to go above and beyond, which means you don't receive the same service.

also waiting tables is a very demanding job, not everyone can do it well. it requires a lot of patience, memorization and multitasking. the only reason people apply is because they have the opportunity to make good money. if you make it less desirable to be a waiter you're going to see more unqualified people being given waitering jobs... i.e. the people you would never want serving you in the first place.

the moral of the story is don't be a cheap fukk. leave a tip for service.

If you were so concerned about waiters having tough jobs and you actually respected what they do, you would support them receiving a fair wage.

Instead, your primary concern is maintaining your power over waiters in the form of arbitrary tips, and maintaining the employers' ability to underpay waiters.

Restaurant workers shouldn't be beholden so much to the vagaries of customers, many of whom use the power of the tip to engage in sexist and racist harassment.

fukk outta here b.

Lol don't take the moral high ground with me, you're the one that has a problem with tipping... not me. I worked as a waiter for years during college.

So long as the service isn't noticeably terrible I leave a 20% tip every time.

If waiters were paid a salary they would earn less money, you're drawing an argument out of thin air.

Also not every waiter works equally as hard or cares to put in the same effort. Why should someone who goes above and beyond be paid the same as someone who does the minimum?

Read the article I linked you clown, it provides information and studies disproving your tired, pro-status quo arguments.

Like I said, fukk outta here b.

And yet you won't be able to find a single waiter who would rather work for salary, unless of course you were paying them an unusually large amount.

You have no ground to stand on. All you're doing is posting articles about bullshyt.
