Oddly enough, I actually see what you are saying. Your response actually lead me on an internet rabbithole to the definition of race in prewar Germany. Seems like the 1935 nuremberg laws made them into their own separate race like the system we got in the US. I was somewhat doubtful of even this, until i noticed that traditional races (black, non-gernan white, etc) were in there also.
I cant help but think that the whole classification thing seemed so damn arbitrary. Internet rabbithole also revealed that jews were categorized by the religion of their grandparents, instead of their physical features in some weird one-drop concept.Its Sad how one can become a different category of organism entirely based on some pen marks and manuscript. Reminds me a bit of the indian caste system.
One more question for you tho. Would whoopie have been OK if she just prefaced her statement with "from our/American perspective" instead of making a blanket statement?
The Aryan stuff is insane but interesting to learn about. They classified traditional European people as Aryan, and just about everyone else as subhuman. Beyond Jews, many of whom are technically white, they also considered Slavs to be subhuman. IE Russians, who are also white. It’s part of the reason Hitler was dumb enough to attack Russia during WWII.
I don’t think that designation would have saved Whoopi since you can argue our perspective is kinda irrelevant. She was claiming the Nazis were killing fellow whites who were Jewish so it wasn’t about race, and while I understand that from OUR modern views on race it’s irrelevant to the context. She’ll be fine though, it’s just a suspension.

No, she wouldn't have been correct. The atrocities were not committed by America, they were committed by Hitler and his Nazis who had the specific purpose of creating what they viewed as a pure race.
She'd have my support on the matter if she was using their logic against them but that isn't what happened. She decided to shoot from the hip and approached a sensitive topic with a narrow point of view.
That she was suspended for just 2 weeks is a sign that people within the company fukk with her. Makes sense as she was quick to put out an apology. It shields her further criticism.
Feel that people not understanding the above is one of the failings of the internet. People stay within echo chambers and forget what it is like to communicate with normal people. They also show 0 commercial awareness.
