Because they're down 38% from the Wii, which is the 2nd best selling console of all time?
If this was enough to make a company 3rd party there would be no PS4.
Fred.
A console in it's third month, sold 55k consoles for a 5 week period. 11k a week.
Here are the first three months of the PS3, with legit supply issues
November 06: 197k
December 06: 490k
January 07: 244k
Total: 931k
This is the Wii U's first three months.
November 12: 425k
December 12: 460k
January 13: 55k
Total: 940k
There aren't any supply issues. Zelda, Mario and Mario Kart aren't going to save this system.
The Xbox 360 and the PS3 were destined to perform well because the publishers and developers were going to will those consoles to success. Games are steadily going to come out. Look at the Wii U's schedule, just what is going to come out? Nothing, nada and not a damn thing for the foreseeable future. The days of just dropping a new console without a nice stream of games are over.
As with the HD twins from this generation. PS4 and the new Xbox will prosper. The Wii sold well because of it's disruption. The motion control shyt was new and virtually anyone could go it. Nintendo did some advertising at places like AARP, hoping to hook up with the casual crowd. It was foolish to try to get struck by lighting twice and hope the casuals will come back.
Nintendo is in a world were virtually every type of system has a better ecosystem of features, competent online, new IPs and more. I love Zelda, but let's be real for a second, they've been peddling the same Zelda since A Link to the Past. Nintendo is getting their long overdue and sadly deserved dose of hard reality. Can't keep cheapskating through this, it was bound to catch up to them.
