The highest court in South Africa has ruled that President Jacob Zuma violated the constitution when he failed to repay government money spent on his private home.

It gave the treasury 60 days to determine how much he should repay.

The ruling is a victory for the opposition, who said they would push for Mr Zuma's impeachment.

They accuse him of using "ill-gotten wealth" to upgrade his home with a swimming pool and amphitheatre.

In Canada politicians are found to have misused public funds all the time (Mike Duffy is only the latest example) --- and most politicians in Canada are cacs. Is there some extra reason people should care about Zuma? I would rather misuse some money than cacs anytime.

It's case by case. Mac Harb and Palema Wallkin were forced to repay public funds after miappropriating them for his own ends, and did so to no ill effect. Cacs misuse public money all the time without punishment in Canada --- Duffy is basically the only one being criminally charged out of the legions that misppropriate public funds. Clement basically misappropriated funds to help get him elected under the guise of the G8 Summit and wasn't punished. I could go on but cacs misuse public money all the time without punishment in Canada. Zuma should probably be forced to step down with some punishment, but 14 years is excessive.

Breh, it's all part of the same Senate scandal, but the cases are individual. Pamela was partially able to show her (travel) expenses were part of her job. Mike Duffy's case is still ongoing and will likely lose and the Mark Harb case is postponed after the Duffy one is over with.

This is a scandal followed closely by the media and the public. They can't sweep it under the rug.
