I never even heard of this until just now.
Had two cousins that went to Carter during that time.
Friday Night Lights tried to depict them as Dallas thugs but these were black middle class kids with nice rides, the best clothes, nice homes and 2 parents. Most of them are now the parents of DeSoto/Cedar Hill/Duncanville kids.
Dallas ISD hasn't produced a football state champion (not counting Carter) since 1950. Lots of talent but the black folks have moved north and south to the different nearby burbs. Mostly Mexicans in DISD now, so they pretty much garbage at football. Skyline, Lincoln and Carter will have some decent squads here and there but they'll never be good again since all the black middle and upper middle class moved away.
