It's really simple why Clipse had a VERY successful album after 16 years

and i've mentioned this in other threads, yeah the roll out was nice and all these other promotional tactics they used but NONE OF THIS IS POSSIBLE without STICKING TO THE PRODUCER and SOUND that made THEM from the JUMP! What is a clipse album without pharrael? what's a wu joint without RZA? what's a Redman joint without EDub? I've said the reason why a lot of these rappers seem to fall off is because they deviate from the producer that made their fans fall in love with, the core ones. Now to give raekwon and other Wu members some saving grace, RZA went on to some other sh*t and really didn't focus on being the producer for full projects so i can't fault the members for that but for other rappers that decide to work with other producers or even worse, CHEAP NO NAME producers, it makes their project sound bland and cheap to the point fans are bound to get disappointed. If more rappers would work with the producers that made their sound to what the fans fell in love with, they def would be seeing more success. Pharrell took this project personal and gave it all he got to remind mfs why prior clipse albums we're successful and this one here shows what happens when you stick to your guy. :blessed:

This is another reason why the Nas and Preemo project is being hyped af more than a nas and hitboy project, the fans deep down know all along that's what they wanna hear Nas on :sas2:

I dont really trust that Nas/Premo album. Nas has a certain swagger in this decade that he didnt have back them. I just hope mans don’t have him out there sounding dusty.
how would the swag he have now effect the album with preeme though? you would think it would bring out the best in both then?

I tend to agree, having a cohesive sound/regular producer is how a lot of 'classics' ended up sticking and it's something rappers got away from as they got more options. Find your sound and ride with it. You can play around, expand but don't stray too far away from what (and who) got you to the mountain top.

I could be wrong and obviously Nas is my goat I hope he drops a classic but I have very little belief in 2025 Premo can produce to the level of P over 12-15 songs :manny:

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
I kinda see your point and agree to an extent

But then we wouldn’t have gotten IWW with that kinda attitude/approach

And someone like Nas had their fanbase expand by going outside of that original sound

And so did many others

One of the reasons albums suck today is that they are too long. As it has been mentioned in this thread, stick to your sound, try to do more albums with 1 producer, and stop making the albums 20+ tracks. That's why the golden era had so many classic albums. 1 producer, 1 sound, and 12 tracks or less.

Rap is art

Putting ARTISTS into one box and saying they have to work with the same producer (s) their entire career is shackling them to a fate worse than death. What if that producer dies? What if that producer retires?

Clipse are a VERY rare scenario where the rappers literally grew up with the producer and there was never any major falling out the past 30 years. But thats not the standard for everyone nor should it be expected.
