Brehs...i need this thread revived for my benefit...

I've been very pro-Netgear with my routers and I actually really like the interface.

I am in a 2bedroom apt, an old but well kept building. I bring this up because I sometimes had an issue with my wifi drop in the living room (Router was in master bedroom) and I believe lead walls or something may be affecting the range. Just speculation.

Anyway, I was told that there are routers that do not have to be near the modem, maybe the person didnt know what they were talking about.

But anyway, I do alot of gaming & streaming and multi devices connected.

I was looking at this list...

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2398080,00.asp

I'm leaning towards the Nighthawk, Trendset or Linksys Smart Router (PCMAG's top rated).

ALSO, if there are routers that allow some kind of ability to place my router in an ideal spot considering I don't presently want to resort to calling Time Warner and paying for a rewiring. Thanks brehs... and forgive any ignorance. ..

Asus ac2400 rt-ac87u super fast speed, great protection, and the range on this thing is beast. It's expensive but well worth it.

I heard the cheaper AC68u is really good to. I need to upgrade my router, but I know @WhartoX has one and he's had nothing but good shyt to say about it.

I copped this jawn as my Christmas gift to myself. :blessed: The coli never fails me.

I just bought this one. Coming from the Netgear R7000. It's performing very well for me but the thing is huge and that's saying something because the R7000 is huge.

I had an Asus router before and used Merlin's firmware

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I upgraded my 12 year old modem to a docsis 3.0 a couple months ago and need to replace the router also. Will be reading this thread.

Just copped the ac87u from Amazon in like new condition (open box) for $160. I figured it was worth the risk for over $100 off retail. Can't vouch for the seller since I just ordered, but the router is supposed to be the best you can buy right now (like everybody else has said).

ASUS router. I'm hearing issues with the RT-AC87U one though. I copped the RT-AC68P from Best Buy in November and put Merlin firmware on it. I love it and the 5 GHZ band wireless is fukking faster than my hard line connections. Just wish the PS4 supported Wireless AC 5Ghz:mjcry:

man how much is this router gonna cost me? I don't wanna drop $200+ on a router. and the high end ones I saw at walmart last weekend were kinda pricey.

Re-up. I never did get a new router but I desperately need to at this point. Old router is like 6 years old, not doing the job anymore, too many dropped connections.
