Also oil is NOT good for your hair

It depends on the oil. Oil can be a moisturizer or sealant. Sealing oils don’t penetrate the hair shaft and traps in moisture, but could also cause build up. Moisturizing oils, like coconut oil, are lighter and penetrate the hair shaft.

I think people get varying results because they use the wrong type of oils for the what they need. If you’re using a sealant, like castor oil as a moisturizer, product applied on top of it will cake up and make your hair gross. If you use coconut oil and no sealant, your hair is probably going to dry out during the day.

Never was a fan of pomade or grease.

Feels like I’m literally putting wax on my hair.

I’d say try finding shea butter or look online for high quality wave products.

I used to use Murray’s so I know what you mean. I did see a few online but because there’s so many, it’s difficult to choose. I currently have a mini fro and for the past few years I’ve only used

and shampoo (for a fade/ bald fade)

Murrays actually smelled the best lol.

But that shyt was waxy af.

I used sportin waves too, and I could not stand the smell of that.

One thing that I liked was what a poster posted a few post up, of a product called cold label wave pomade.

I felt that was good, not too waxy and smells good.

I have no idea if they still sell it or not.

They do - I would recommend purchasing their Wave & Scalp Butter and the Wolfin' Pomade - for a really good moisturizer/hold combo.

I use Murrays when I'm deep wolfin - like 8+ weeks - but other than that its mostly just the ColdLvbel products or that Olive Oil Lotion they sell at every hair store.
