I’ve always said this but Asians treat math and science like we treat playing sports.

Problem is, you get clowned at most schools for being smart or trying. Get labeled a dork and it’s essentially a scarlet letter in many cases.
This isn’t really the case anymore with jits.

I’m not saying it’s not a stigma but if you’re getting clowned for being smart, MFer you’re in a slow class.

My kids don’t get handled like that. Being a nerd just isn’t bashed like it used to be.

Now being WEIRD is still clowned but smart? 🧢

Several things here:

1. African immigrants do similarly, so this isn't just an Asian thing and might have to do with more so being immigrants - I wonder why Hispanic immigrants don't have a similar highlighted culture. Because of the jobs American society molds them towards?

2. Asian and Black people are treated completely differently in this country. This includes in media and their cultures. Asians were often pit against Black people as an example of why Black culture is toxic, meanwhile Asian people face different challenges and are blocked by White people in different ways. Black is placed on the bottom. Asians are leveraged higher than us just because they aren't Black, though they're still othered.

Why am I mentioning this?

Because they actually get to focus on good grades without being worried about Portrayal in media, treatment at job interviews, historically being hired last and fired first (see our current unemployment rates), police treatment, doctors dismissing pain, etc. etc. Black people set up to fail in numerous ways that dont get resolved just by good grades. So it's harder to sell us on the idea of good grades solving everything.

Even as I type all this I'd rather us focus on good grades than not. But yeah, that shyt alone aint gonna chip away aint gonna beat out white supremacy

We our done homie

nikkas going to come in here and talk about they own experience or a friend they know

But in the big picture over 80% of black kids reading and math proficiency is below average and all the gymnastics nikkas doing to hide from the truth is not going to help

This post should have ended the thread.

Another thing is a lot of Asians aren’t religious. Asian Americans are the largest irreligious group in the U.S by far.

Even only 11% of Asian Americans are Buddhist.

Filipinos make up the majority of Asian Americans who are religious. 75% of the Filipino American population are religious and there’s a big fall off after that group. If you don’t count Filipinos at least half of the Asian American population aren’t religious.

Lends itself to STEM very well.

My school had math camp and other programs and the school was at least 50% black. We also had one of the top 4A football teams in the state during my time.

:mjpls:

You school must have been hot garbage juice. :hhh:

Edit: we also had Pawgs!

Math, Science, and Pawgs in one .....only on the coli, only on the coli

Embarrassed that every time I’ve gone out with Asian friends or colleagues we automatically have them figure the bill :snoop:

their language has math embedded in it, that helps them to easily figure it out.

their language translates to literally 5 tens, or 6 tens, instead of 50 or 60. Growing up like that wiht your brain being trained that way would make math easier to learn really. Add in the rice growing mentality. It takes alot of determination and patience to grow rice. Combine that with a language with math embedded in it. There's African cultures with similiar life style... rice growing with math embedded in the language.

We were taught better when our schools were segregated. Black teachers and professors were educating at a rate never seen before in human history.

They out here doing competitions, decathlons, and stay away training camps :why: Summer camp for Math is crazy :why: If black folk can ever get in the mindset to treat academics like this, we’d be just as good.

My brother is in a gifted program with a bunch of Asians. He told me the other students will cook you if you get a B.
