I’ve always said this but Asians treat math and science like we treat playing sports.

People can hate on Thomas Sowell all they want. But he was one of the first to bring it up

Culture matters. What values you are instilling in your community and your children predicts who successful you are going to be when you grow up. Anti-intellectualism is unfortunately rampant in the Black Community

Not only that

Dr Claud Anderson told black people in 1995 by 2015 we will become 4th class citizens

And if we haven’t got shyt done as majority minority what u think it’s going to be when we are at the bottom in 30 years

Late born baby boomers and generation x avoided those harsh conversations back then and the young black folks today really avoiding those conversations today

Nigerians outpace them.

Black people are capable.
Keep in mind the Nigerians coming to America come from backgrounds where they'd be making serious money. When they get hired here, they're hired as things like engineers or pharmacists. If you have money you can pay for tutoring so your children don't fall behind. People think Asians are supernaturally smart when the reality is that everyone from the family will chip in if they need to in order to make sure that child doesn't fall behind.

A lot of people will just complain about the education gap and then do nothing about it other than to take it as yet another example of black inferiority. What they COULD be doing is figuring out how they can join parents or volunteering groups that pool their resources together to make sure their kids get extra help and don't fall behind. Its plenty of retired teachers and actively working professionals who can provide mentorship and tutoring.

Those athletes with generational wealth make up less than 1% of the black poulation
Good God:snoop:

And those athletes and rappers these nikkas talk about have no homes, no build institutions in the black community

Save that they give back turkeys, book bags, etc

They money and businesses they open are spent in white communities

I know so many of our people banking on their kids going pro.

You know them personally? Like you encounter them in real life and have actually spoken to them?

It's no secret that mfs don't just "go pro" in sports. If you don't go to camps, go to good high schools you aren't going pro. That's it. We aren't even going to discuss what you have to do once you exit high school to even have a viable possible opportunity in the future of even being considered to go professional, that's a whole nother thread.

A statement like "most black people want their kids to play sports so they can go to college with an athletic scholarship vs just studying and getting in for free or with significant scholarships due to grades" is more applicable.

Kids aren't going pro after high school, they at least got to go to college. Even dumb ass parents know this and won't overlook it. And now with NIL deals.....going pro is officially the old way of thinking, it's still great and it's long money, but in 2025, fast money and big money equals good money. And mfs ain't turning down good money.

You so busy fishing for daps you failed to acknowledge I WASN'T WRONG!

Asian kids can face depression due to various factors including high academic pressure, cultural expectations, and experiences with racism and microaggressions. Some studies indicate higher rates of depressive symptoms and suicide attempts among Asian American and Pacific Islander youth compared to other groups, especially females. Additionally, cultural stigma surrounding mental health and a reluctance to seek help can exacerbate issues.

Contributing factors
  • "Model minority" stereotype:
The false belief that all Asian Americans are successful and high-achieving can lead to a neglect of their mental health needs, as problems are often overlooked.

  • High expectations:
Strong emphasis on academic and professional success can place significant burdens on youth, contributing to stress and burnout.

  • Racism and discrimination:
Experiences with racism, microaggressions, and unfair treatment are linked to increased rates of depression and other mental health issues.

  • Cultural stigma:
Many Asian cultures have a stigma against discussing mental health, viewing it as a sign of weakness, which discourages youth from seeking help.

  • Parental support:
A lack of parental support can be a predictor of depression. However, Asian American parenting can be complex, involving acculturation and enculturation, and its impact on mental health needs more exploration.

Why can't we do both? :whew:

Because it's time wasting.

they get a higher return on their investment by putting their time into math and science. And every single one of them that goes into math and science has an opportunity waiting for them. The vast majority of us who invest into sports have nothing waiting for us since there's less than two thousand people in all the leagues combined. Compare that to the hundreds of thousands of well paid opportunities math/science open.

You could argue that sports could be used to get a scholarship, but so can a math and science. And unlike a sports scholarships, the math and science scholarships actually allow their students to study. With Football or basketball scholarships, it's basically a full-time job so very few students doing this get real degrees And they are assed out after college.

Facts.

Someone told me that White people enroll their kids in sports to networking, learning how to work with different cultures and characters. And to grew their competitive spirit. All to take into business.

I know so many of our people banking on their kids going pro. It's the Pros or failure.
The crazy thing is that the asians do the exact same thing in math and science. And they are more effective at networking through it.

As an example, The kids at your local science decathlon or math competition end up working as scientists at the CDC, directors at facebook, professors at universities, start up founders, are the children of existing enterprises, etc.

I didn't even realize this until my junior year in college when I finally decided to join one of these events. I was shocked to see that within one little nerdy science club there was the white son of the biggest electrical engineering firm in the state, the grand son of one of the korean samsung conglomerates, the arab son of a saudi aramco petroleom engineering director, several 20something white kids which had already gotten startup funding from google/facebook, the son of a jewish quant exec from Morgan Stanley , etc.
:wtf:

And this was Just a normal state school, Not a fancy ivy league or a stanford. I swear I wanted to beat my head into concrete When I realized how many opportunities I had wasted by ignoring these science and math organizations throughout my youth. Because when you look at it this way, these kids in these nerdy competitions and clubs are all great contacts for career advancement.

My school had math camp and other programs and the school was at least 50% black. We also had one of the top 4A football teams in the state during my time.

:mjpls:

You school must have been hot garbage juice. :hhh:

Edit: we also had Pawgs!

I heard about this school.
I heard the brehs go to homecoming with the white girls and prom with the black queens.
Where all the black kids have active fathers and all the white kids come from single parent homes.

My lil cousin is 6 yrs old and he has 15 different footballs and basketballs. Not one book

Buy him a set of encyclopedias for Christmas then Unc. Hard cover.

Buy him a set of books, there's plenty of book collections for kids that have 5-10 books.

Be the change you want to see. Buy him a set of books, tell him if he reads them to holler at you and you'll hook him up. Give him $100 or something, or take him to eat, take him to the zoo or a movie, buy him a bike. Then buy him another set and tell him to get back at you. You won't even have to "reward" him every time. Y'all might just link up and he be excited to tell you what he read and wants to read next.

Hopefully y'all can have that bond cause reading is forever, he can't play sports forever. So when he's older, he's going to remember reading and how it was fun and how you encouraged him.

Black Self-Sufficiency
I’m going to take a different tack on this. Instead of arguing back and forth about whether it’s true or not, or making statements about whether we are or aren’t cooked, I’m going to ask this simple question:

What are any of you doing within your own sphere of influence to help resolve this problem?

Are you making sure the children you have influence over are doing well in their subjects? Have you encouraged them to read, to do their homework? Have you purchased books for them that help explain their subjects, Algebra, for example, in different ways that might stick? Have you tutored them, or provided a tutor if you’re not able to help them yourself? So on and so forth...

It’s easy to talk about how the Black community is cooked, that seems to flow easily from many of you. It’s also easy to reflexively deny there’s a problem. What’s harder is actually doing what you can to help alleviate the problem. The solution starts with each person who recognizes the problem and works to fix it; at least among those they have influence with, from family to close friends.

We do that but it’s not glorified at all. That’s really the unfortunate truth.

Getting a full ride to MIT won’t have the same impact as a football scholarship to Penn State

I don’t think it’s a black thing. I think it’s an American thing.
