This is low key a crazy take. What does Gibbs need to do?

Everyone knows they 90’s was the golden age. The 00’s was good, but many people think the 10’s were a better decade for hip hop than the 00’s.

So Gibbs had an incredible discography in one of the better eras in hip-hop. He’s got 1-2 already classic albums, and another 1-2 that are likely to be when they age more. He has classic mixtapes, and he’s got a few guest verses that are each top 10 guest verses of the 2010’s.

Besides having a big mainstream hit, how can 59 rappers be above him? Even die hard old heads that don’t even listen to new hip hop love Gibbs.

He’s way above the top 60. To put him only in the top 60 is to put good emcees with no special discographies above him. Cats Sheek, Nature, Capadonna, Obie Trice, etc. I like those rappers too. No shade.

But you really got them over Gibbs?

I'd put him over Prodigy. I guess that means Gibbs is the GOAT.

I know it didn’t start in the 90’s, but most people posting on this board weren’t old enough to be able to appreciate hip hop in the 80’s. I wasn’t not counting the decade. I just didn’t mention it. I shouldn’t have even tried to compare decades to make my point that the 2010s was incredible and highly slept on if you knew where to look

i know where to look. im not judging it off of just mainstream wackness.

its the weakest decade by far.

The 2010's were amazing for me. I was well fed the whole time, especially the past couple years. :blessed:

it had some good stuff, but paled in comparison to the 4 previous decades.

Dunno where I'd place him or any active rapper who is still making good music. Gotta wait and see where things end up. I want to see Gibbs continue to grow as an artist and writer. He's always gonna be able to give us gangsta shyt, and shyt talking...but I love hearing him get personal and rap about other shyt. He's done it on multiple projects, most recently Alfredo.

Multiple great projects, from trap (Shadow Of A Doubt) to non-trap (Pinata, Bandana, Alfredo, Baby Faced Killa, etc) and a lot of other solid shyt. ESGN might be the only project he's released in the last 10 years that I thought was meh...and even that has some dope tracks.

I'd rather compare him to peers. He's up there with Kendrick, Danny Brown, Vince, Earl, and others who have released multiple stand out albums.

Being honest he’s currently not on the list anywhere that’s worth mentioning but he is talented and has the potential maybe to rise 1 day.

think Freddie Gibbs cares about catering to mainstream brehs.

A lot of goats didn't give a fukk about mainstream like that, the quality was just simply undeniable. You think death certificate was for white people? Whilst I agree that he ain't tryna be mainstream, Gibbs does need to resonate with the overall hip hop audience (hip hop audience, NOT white america), right now whilst gibbs is very much top tier imo, he doesn't really have that "one" undeniable song/hit. I mean for goodness sake, griselda argubly have that song in dr birds, is that song mainstream to you?

I don't ponder on other people's opinion or how it affected others when I make personal favorite lists. For me, he's easily one of the most consistent rappers ever and he's one of the best flows/spitters. That's enough for me to put him on my top lists. Simply that I listen to his music a lot. Arts are way too subjective to make non-personal lists on them, it's not like sports, basically, everything comes down to personal opinions/tastes and if you try to quantify it somehow you will end up going by sales, radio plays and whatnot and there's no point in that.
It's like I won't put McDonalds above my favorite local burger joint on an imaginary list just cause a lot more people know and have eaten in McDonalds.
