I'm from New York and over the years I've probably taken close to 10 roundtrip flights to Asia. I've never earned one Airline mile. I honestly don't know what the best way to collect them is.

I usually just use the sites like Skyscanner to look for deals. I usually use my bank's debit card and I've never used a credit card to purchase flights. I usually go for something that is affordable and have gone through sites like Cheapo Air before.

Does going through sites like CheapOair prevent me from accumulating miles if I would have used a credit card that's famous for accumulating miles?

Any advice is appreciated. I'll be taking at least 1-2 long distance trips next year and would like to make the most of the miles.

What you doing fool, smuggling PlayStations :mjtf:

Maybe look and see if your bank has a miles debit card. Other people who fly more got the tips. I travel often but not enough to care about miles

You have to buy the flight through the carrier with a credit card that has a mile program.

that’s crazy you were using your debit card to buy airline tickets :russ: why don’t you have a credit card, if you don’t mind me asking?

Breh, that is a ridiculous amount of wasted miles earnings.

:skip:

Try to stick with one airline group. You can fly one airline, and still earn miles for your preferred airline if they are in the same group.

Yes, you can earn from Expedia, Cheap Air etc. You get better fares from there anyway. Just download the airline app, and use that to check-in.

As far as cards, Chase Sapphire is good, but visit sites like The Flight Deal for good rates, and they have offers for credit cards. Some of them offer sign on bonuses, so you get 10,000 miles for an approval. Put everything you buy on the card, but pay it off every month.

Once you earn status with an airline, you can get upgrades on flights.

My ex-girl was in Japan and I used to visit her. Also, I went to Chiang Mai twice last year. And other trips...

I didn't own a credit card (of any kind) in my life until Summer 2018 so I have 0 credit card debt in my life. I currently got a Discover with a $3000 limit.

Like I said, I was usually going for "good deals" and thus was not trying to go with just one airline. Over the last few years I've been better at not going for the absolute cheapest flight cause sometimes it's not worth it, but I still search on the same sites.

I was trying to not have to pay any fees for a credit card, but I understand that if it ends up being worth it (i.e. if I know that I'll use it alot), then it might not be so bad.

I thought about this aspect as well. This is probably averaging out to one round trip to Asia every year for the last 10 years, but I don't know if I would say that I travel a lot like people that travel for work. One of these long trips a year might not be enough to make a credit card that earns me points for miles worth it.

I know that next year if my health is right, and if my money is okay, I'm definitely going to do one of these trips again and also maybe 1 to 2 trips to Latin America.
