Cause it's the best written and acted television show since The Sopranos and The Wire:manny:

Don Draper, Peggy Olson, Pete Campbell, Joan Holloway, Roger Sterling, Cosgrove (very underrated), Bert Cooper, Lane Pryce, Stand Rizzo is the reason I watch. The characters and their chemistry is unmatched.

The swag is really untouchable, but if all this show had was swag, it would be on ABC or CBS. This show does not not just rely just on personality.

#1 The first thing the show has for it is incredible writing at the same level as Sopranos and The Wire. This is the reason why shows came to cable tv, so the writing can be intricate and detailed.
#2 They catch the era which is after the 30's, 40's, 50's and before the 70's, 80's, 90's. If it wasn't set in the 60's, I feel the show would not have the same impact.
#3 Finally to the real reason this show had fan fare, it was about Madison Ave and Don Draper. Neither, of these aspects disappoint.
#4 Storyline and characters are untouchable. Most shows characters are forgettable.

This is the holy trinity.

1-Sopranos
2-The Wire
3-Mad Men

Every other show is fighting for the #4 spot.

Basically, people love the show because of the characters, plot, and writing.
