I as well as others on here have been saying this for YEARS about Cole. Real fans know the deal, his stans would call anybody who said otherwise haters, and bring up the "Cole went plat with no features" argument like that shyt meant his music was progressing.

Glad to see he's collaborating and making great music with others, the run he's been on with the features and the music he's put out over the last year or so has been great, and it's clear as to why

Previous post of mine over the years below...

His sound is safe and repetitive. That's why people want to see him step outside his comfort zone and work with different people. Not just rappers, but producers, singers, musicians etc.

We know stans such as yourself feel that everything he releases is perfect. J. Cole knows this as well. That's why no risks will be taken by him as long as his stans support him the way they do.

It reminds me of Eminem's career. Plenty of fans wanted him to use different producers, get away from him always producing his shyt. Cole the same way. But hey, it's not broke so don't fix it.

Keep giving the people what they want Cole.

:salute:

This is a confirmation on how Cole has tunnel vision with his work.
:snoop:

No, you don't have to reach out/collab with others because they have a name. You do it because you can make 'good' songs 'great' songs. You do it because you can't do EVERYTHING better than your peers. :smh:

He needs to go back to his Born Sinner zone. FHD2014 and 4YEO is a tired sound. I want to hear Cole having fun on records again. Born Sinner had some bangers on there... She Knows and Trouble live are just :wow:

The fact that Cole's stans continuously bring up the fact that he produces his own music, and doesn't have any features just baffles me. There's a reason why people find his music boring. Music has always been about collaboration, I will never understand how refusing to work with other talented people to ELEVATE music is a good thing.

This nikka Cole is coming up with aliases to feature himself on his own albums.

:dahell:

He's singing all throughout his projects, when he's not a singer like that. Distorting his voice... all for the sake of not using features. And now his fans are completely enabling this shyt, and ultimately it's just holding Cole back from being a better artist. Crazy thing is, he's actually improved a ton lyrically IMO. Not dropping nearly as many corny bars like he used to. But everything else is falling short.

The arrogance and sperg-like weirdness of his previous views are really jarring. I was saying that years ago too. Music is a collaborative effort, most of the time. You can point to Prince all you want, but Lisa and Wendy were writing with him for years. James Brown surrounded himself with top tier musicians, from Bootsy Collins to Maceo Parker. Rap wise, Hov has already excelled by finding the best producers to help him not only with beats...but with hooks. Kanye has done the same thing. Kendrick lapped Cole so bad IMO in large part because Kendrick surrounds himself with top tier talent and producers too.

It’s funny cuz I too find the vast majority of Cole’s catalog boring and safe.

But I felt like KOD was his best album and a step in the right direction, aside from featuring himself via weird alter-ego for the sake of ā€œno featuresā€ :lolbron:

I don’t mind Cole’s production. He ain’t Kanye West but he can produce some FIRE shyt when motivated. Hell I thought 4 Your Eyez Only was superb.

Besides that him eating from publishing having written AND produced his own stuff has to be a factor too. Dude gets to double dip which I’m sure is a nice bag he ain’t trying to give up as long as he’s selling like he does.

Its not arrogant to be confident in your own skills. He’s obviously been validated in the fact that, while rapping and producing his own shyt, he’s never flopped. In the day and age where Artists act like they are scared to hold a project down dolo, featuring EVERY hot rapper/singer of the moment, its nice to see an artist truly create something of their OWN accord
