ok, I can honestly say that I'm not a Kanye fan like that at all, but Dilla Died in 2006, By then Kanye had his first 2 albums selling over 3 million, but produced on several other platinum albums. Kanye was a household name BEFORE dilla died. Obviously dilla made better music and beats, but popularity wise, only the real underground heads knew who Dilla was prior to his death. As dumb as it may sound, Dilla's death helped his discography and made him a bigger star than he ever was and I hate that.

Insane statement especially given Ye’s rise with CD. By the time Dilla died Ye was already superstar status and put out a banger sophomore album.

Producer wise Dilla was better but bigger than Kanye? Fam he wasn’t bigger than Ye when he was even alive. Ludicrous statement.

And Ye moved even closer to using ghost beats, Dilla was goated already and still improving even in a declined state physically. Wasn't even close to his final form. No contest.

I agree. People make the same statements about Beyonce and Aaliyah. They say that if Aaliyah had not died, no one would know who Beyonce was. By the time of Aaliya's death, Destiny's Child had already sold over 10 million records worldwide.

Dilla is leaps and bounds better as a producer than Ye. But imo Dilla didn't want the fame like that. He turned down producing Justin Timberlake album to go make beats with his homies, he also turned down working with Jay-Z (have to look up the Dilla Time book again) I don't think JD cared for the fame, he wanted to make music he enjoyed, Ye wanted the fame and already had it when Dilla was alive. If I'm not mistaken, Dilla was in the Slum Village "tainted" video in the background and Ye was already that dude

People forget dilla could have been that guy in the 90s. Q tip begged him to go to the awards show and he would refuse.
