I think it’s that we really didn’t know that Jay would/could move like this.
Run was always going to be ok because his brother was the boss. But the reality for Jay was that even though he was part of a major pillar of the culture, his pockets were iffy at best and he turned to the streets.
Even though he still had a foot in music, he wanted bigger and faster money and probably didn’t consider the risks because he was already dabbling in the drug game. You are part of a kinda sorta squeaky clean music group and then get shot in the head — it’s going to be polarizing.

From what I heard he was never actually signed as a part of the group.
But we should not say anyone. "was going to be ok". That's a perpetual problem with entertainers. Everyone assumes as much. When moguls like Master P and Baby are having problems then what do entertainers really look like
