Vanderbilt coach James Franklin :beli: and Boise State coach Chris Petersen are top candidates for the USC opening and the search may be completed by the middle of this week, according to sources.

USC has made it known to interim coach Ed Orgeron that they value his contribution to the program and would like him to stay with the program in some capacity.

Franklin led Vanderbilt to an 8-4 season after a 9-4 record last year, going 9-7 in SEC play over the two seasons.

Franklin, 41, is known as a charismatic leader and excellent recruiter. He is a Pennsylvania native but has worked with many teams, including Washington State, Maryland, Kansas State and the Green Bay Packers.

Petersen, 49, has led Boise State to a 92-12 record and five conference titles in eight years. He is a native Californian with experience recruiting the Los Angeles area.

Petersen, like Franklin, has been able to successfully develop players who weren't the highest-rated recruits.

USC athletic director Pat Haden fired Lane Kiffin earlier this season.

Can't go wrong with either....But if I was USC, James Franklin would be at the top of the list.....3 straight bowl games for Vandy is ridiculous, and they need to build a statue of him down there in Nashville......Real talk

fukk that nikka. Coach O and this staff completely revamped this team midseason and went 6-2 which should be 7-1(Kicker fukked up at ND) which included a win over Stanford that no one thought was possible. I'd love to see what they could do with a full offseason and training camp under their belt

I don't think SC will pull Franklin from Vandy. He's way too invested in the school and community a la Shaka Smart.

Ed Orgeron has a losing track record as a head coach tho....USC can't afford to fukk up this hire....

He has a winning record with this team, beat Stanford, solidified the recruiting class, and the players love him

he was handed the keys to a fishtailing ferrari, and happened to straighten out the wheel. based on his previous track record as coach, i wouldnt trust him to race said ferrari right now when better options are out there

I'm starting to think you're talking like a fan instead of being reasonable....Tuberville had Ole Miss jumping....Cutcliffe had Ole Miss jumping too with Eli.....and Hugh Freeze is currently over 500 as the coach down there

Before hugh freeze who was the last winning coach at Ole Miss? The 03 squad helmed by Eli

Just saying its hard to win at Ole Miss plus that was his first coaching job, that doesnt have anything to do with him now

I already named them....Cutcliffe may have went to a BCS bowl with Ole Miss and had 4 straight winning seasons...I think Tuberville had like 4 straight winning seasons there as well. So combined that's like 8 winning seasons out of 9 straight....
