Intense video of the Hawaiian plane crash that took place last month recently emerged, showing the moments before and after the small plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean. ABC obtained video shot by Ferdinand Puentes, one of the passengers on board. In the video, you can see the frightening moment of impact and then the ocean water rushing into the cabin as the passengers made their escape.
"I looked outside of the window and saw that the ocean was coming pretty fast."
With his GoPro camera, Puentes captured the moment when the plane's engine failed and sent the pilot and passengers gliding toward the water. The pilot, Clyde Kawasaki, pulled off an emergency landing, and all nine passengers were able to get out before the plane began sinking.
That's when Puentes snapped a photo - of the dark blue ocean and the plane's tail in the background, Puentes kept afloat using his life preserver, which can be seen in the foreground. Rescue crews arrived nearly 80 minutes later. Although all nine passengers escaped, Hawaii's state director of health, Loretta Fuddy, died sometime after the crash.
The 65-year-old Fuddy was the Hawaiian official who confirmed President Barack Obama's birth certificate during the birther debate. Investigators are unsure as to what caused Fuddy's death.
Puentes told reporters he's still shaken up by the crash, but has kept in touch with Kawasaki ever since. The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate how the plane's engine lost power.
