'Japan Model' Has Beaten Coronavirus, Shinzo Abe Declares

Speaking at a press conference on Monday evening in Tokyo, Mr Abe said that Japan had avoided an explosive increase in cases without the compulsory lockdowns used in Europe or the US. The ending of the state of emergency in the last five prefectures it covered -- Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba and Hokkaido -- will mean that the worldâ(TM)s fourth-largest economy can start to reopen for business. "In a characteristically Japanese way, we have all but brought this epidemic under control in the last month and a half," said Mr Abe. "Surely, it shows the power of the Japan model." Japan's constitution prohibits a compulsory lockdown but, under the state of emergency that began on April 7, the government requested voluntary social distancing and business closures. Under that regime, the number of new Covid-19 cases fell from 600-700 a day in mid-April to about 20-30 a day last week. The country has diagnosed 16,581 cases of coronavirus with 830 deaths -- many fewer than similar-sized populations in Europe or the US.

They were already wearing masks outside before all this shyt. Look at the crowd from the Mayweather fight in Japan a lot of them had masks on.
This and the lesson learned from SARS. Same reason South Korea got that shyt fully under control, because both the government and citizens were fully prepared and dedicated to the necessity of quarantining.

Japan is also another Asian nation where the use of face masks is a common thing.

Yep, all facts.

Also, East Asian countries have a collectivist mentality where they are more likely to follow the rules in order to help their fellow citizens.

Americans by and large have an individualistic mentality. Most only care about "me and mines" :hubie:.

America is huge and diverse, that's a bad combination when it comes to culture and tradition, no sense of unity, people are spread apart so far mentally and physically , there's no honor and sense of accountability.

They have a culture that celebrates conformity, we do not..

Like I said to someone else, we can’t even agree to do anything for the common good. Repairing a train tunnel into nyc that is deteriorating, is a political issue. The entire eastern seaboard goes through there. It’s dysfunctional to the extreme.

Both mindsets have their advantages and disadvantages.
But, yeah, partisanship seems to be our downfall.
