This really doesn't surprise me. Generally when you lose the general election you don't come back. The only ones that I can think of off the top of my head are Trump and Nixon. And look how trash they were/are.

Gore arguably had the election stolen from him and never ran again. Losing the general should be a larger blow than losing a primary. People can and should be able to come back off a primary loss. It's a much different battle when you lose the general.

You can also say if the Republicans weren't so craven for power. They could've prevented Trump's second chance by actually impeaching him after Jan 6.
