Nickelodeon did the same thing and I remember Static Shock got canceled for similar reasons
It was two show that I knew were popular growing up they did this with. One was My Brother and me the other was Taina.

Snart Guy was one of the few sitcoms to make sure to humanize the "dumb" characters. Loved that show.

I don't get the Coli hype behind Smart Guy
Show was terrible and every trope behind it was already covered
Mix Arnold Drummond or Webster with Steve Urkel WHam Smart Guy
Dumb Waldo/Bullethead/Cole Brown/Hillary Banks sibling that stay getting into shyt with his homie
One level headed sibling that is there to be the straight man for the comic hijinks (Essence Atkins character)
And the knowledgeable dad who basically cleans up their mess and gives advice at the end of the day and punishes them in the end like every other black tv dad
What makes Smart Guy the shyt??
The plots were generic recycles from other tv shows, I don't ever remember laughing out loud to the show, nothing ground breaking about it.
And nope I'm not about to praise a sitcom for NOT c00nING.

I dont think its a coli thing alot of people love it. shyt had only 3 seasons and manages to run in syndication.

I wasn't a big fan either, but your post is the reason I think it had an appeal. It was an amalgamation of a bunch of popular black sitcom tropes, so it felt familiar but different.
But yea none of the characters were it for me, the main character was annoying, I was too young to relate to the older kids.

In short, the ad dollars aren't there for shows with all black people.
A black man should be able to direct Gilmore Girls or write for Dawson's Creek.
