Dunno if everyone feels like this but so much of the Jay Elect allure was due to rap being in such a transition period in that 2006, 2007 etc era. Most of the 90s legends were making bad music by then. There was no dominant, young east coast rapper emerging. The underground was amazing - Blu, Little Brother, DOOM, etc - but the mystery of Jay Elect was so wild and new.
But looking back...by the time we got into 2011 and Cole, Spitta, TDE, Roc Marci, KRIT, etc started emerging...can we admit Jay Elect missed his shot and we really didn't miss anything, given all the dope music other people dropped. Multiple seminal mixtapes, classic albums, amazing moments. He missed his shot, I don't care and haven't cared for a long time. The album with Jay wasn't even bad btw. It was good. But it wasn't amazing or a classic. Time to stop talking about the man like he dropped a classic.
