I remember hearing that at some point in the fall that year, late at night. I was at the campus library bullshytting online and that shyt blew my mind.

Not gonna lie...despite my jaded views on how things ultimately turned out it's impossible to deny that was a magical time. Every nugget of info on him felt like unraveling an amazing mystery. Every song that dropped was a moment. Remember all the rumors all over SOHH, the blogs etc? Man...

Ahh yes. No matter what one may think of Souljah Boy, it can’t be taken away from him that he utilized the internet to great effect.


With Jay Elect everything just felt so much more organic. His music wasn’t MADE to follow the trend of what was popular at the time, whereas Souljah Boy’s definitely was. Jay went viral off the strength of nothing more than his music and mystique. nikkas didn’t even know what he looked like until like a year later lol.
