The soap opera in Washington and reported discord between the team's head coach and starting quarterback isn't going to end up resulting in a change at either position. Both Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden are expected to stay put for the 2015 season, according to Jason Reid of the Washington Post.
Team owner Dan Snyder reportedly wants both Griffin and Gruden in Washington and will hope the pair can find success despite not seeing eye-to-eye in their first year together. Gruden benched the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in November and replaced him with Colt McCoy, but Griffin recaptured his role as starter after a neck injury sidelined McCoy.
Griffin helped lead the team to an upset victory over the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday, completing 16-of-23 passes for 220 yards. He did throw an interception that set the Eagles up well in the fourth quarter, but it was a mostly efficient performance for Griffin in a game plan that featured plenty of downhill running from Alfred Morris.
Washington will finish the season with a Week 17 home game against the Dallas Cowboys. In an overtime victory over the Cowboys earlier in the year, Griffin was sidelined with an ankle injury and McCoy finished with 299 yards passing.
