Rap and sports have always been intertwined, but JAY-Z might be taking that connection to another level.
According to Front Office Sports, the NFL is planning to ink a partnership with the Jigga Man and Roc Nation. Sources close to the situation claim that Roc Nation will hold a press conference on Wednesday where it will unveil the nature of their new deal. Yet, an NFL spokesperson declined to comment on the potential partnership to Front Office Sports.
As known, JAY-Z's Roc Nation Sports represents a host of highly sought after athletes. This includes NFL superstars like Ndamukong Suh, Todd Gurley, Saquon Barkley, and more. Also, Hov's presence within pop culture would give the company insight into the evolving mentality of up-and-coming athletes. Like Odell Beckham, Jr.'s new YouTube channel, athletes are looking to project their off-field interest in a profitable way. With JAY-Z's experience in creating and sustaining streamable content, he could add to the NFL's growing digital realm while also allowing the athlete to have creative control over their media. If this deal does take place, it would undoubtedly boost the credibility of the NFL which took a hit during the National Anthem protests and subsequent collusion case.
As for Roc Nation Sports, joining forces with a $15 billion company would be a tremendous move for the agency that's just 11 years old. Although the NFL's television ratings have dropped in recent years, it's still considered the most important sports league in America. And, with the end of the collusion case, it's likely that JAY-Z and Roc Nation can help rebrand the NFL so that it will be more palatable for future generations.
