She was sexually, physically and mentally abused as a child. Her dad molested her and abused her after her mother was gone. Most people don't understand trauma nor have the mental capacity to understand nuance, especially on here.

I know a million other people had to have made this same joke, but back when i first saw it as a kid and Jenny says, "You're his daddy, Forrest" I straight up yelled, "Run Forrest, Run!"
Jenny did the best she could with what she got (a childhood full of abuse and trauma). Forrest the only person who really cared for her which is why no matter what she always circled back, but it's also why she kept running away. She thought she was too bad for him and he was too good for her. Pretty sure she says this explicitly at one point? Movie is not subtle about this some ppl just thick.

Childhood trauma is not a excuse to be a douch3bag to other people. If youre an adult and youre a piece of shxt thats a lifestyle choice if you dont fix it. If you have trauma you seek help you don't just start shxtting on the people that love and care about you the most. Plenty of people deal with childhood trauma and end up being good people because they choose to do the work to be a good person.
Everytime she got in some shxt she ran to Forrest and everytime she left his ass. Only reason she stayed the final time is because she had AIDS, didnt want to die alone, and wanted someone to raise her unclaimed child. She knew how that man felt about her and that he was a little slow and took advantage of that.
