It’s tacked onto his current deal, so he’s functionally on a 6 year 153M deal. Which averages out to 26M per year with 113M guaranteed. Assuming some funny money cash payments, his cap number will be super manageable for 4 years before having to be reworked. And with the way the cap keeps rising, it would've only costed more had they waited.
That's a fair price when you consider Chase, Jefferson, Brown, etc all reset the market when they got their number and Wilson is only sliding in at 5th highest AAV at the time of his.
He's shown enough that you feel comfortable betting on him, that number won't be top 10 at the position 18-24 months from now.
But in all seriousness. He's the best receiver the Jets have had since maybe Brandon Marshall. While he isn't game breaker per se. He has proven to be productive despite having mediocre to bad QBs throwing him the ball every year. He is in his prime and the Jets have him locked up for the foreseeable future. I get it. Take care of your core players.
