Just a couple hours after the Financial Times reported that Apple was in talks to acquire Beats Electronics, the New York Post is reporting that Beats CEO Jimmy Iovine is in talks to join Apple as a "special adviser" to Tim Cook on creative matters.
Beats Electronics boss and veteran music industry executive Jimmy Iovine is in talks to join Apple as a “special adviser” to Tim Cook on creative matters, two sources close to talks tell The Post.
Iovine is also the chairman of Universal Music Group's Interscope Geffen A&M music labels, though his contract is set to expire at the end of 2014. However, it's not clear if this is part of the potential purchase of Beats Electronics or separate from that deal.

Iovine has strong contacts in the music industry, allowing Apple to potentially leverage him for potential future negotiations with music labels. This would make him a strong addition even if Apple doesn't purchase Beats.

If Iovine does join Apple, Iovine would be the second high profile executive to join the company after former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts. The Beats CEO also has a history with Apple, having pitched Steve Jobs on a subscription music service and meeting with Apple executives about Beats Music before it launched.

Dr Dre is still a major part of Beats and a decent % of ownership..

it is not the same as the Jay-Z owns 0.3% of the nets or whatever it was

It was Jimmys idea for the headphones. Dre wanted to have his own sneaker and Jimmy told him thats been done before.

Dre is basically an overhyped spokesman for the headphones from what I understand the headphones idea was all Iovine's

Dre reportedly owns a decent portion of beats stock. But he has never reportedly ran the business, he was the 'face' of the company, and an owner. Iovine has been running the company the whole time, although the idea and originally the whole technology and manufacturing was handled by another firm i believe it was Monster. Monster as a business did the technology, manufactured and i believe designed the headphones. Beats By Dre as a business marketed, financed, got financial investors and guided the design. Due to really bad paperwork and contracts by Monster, Beats by Dre the company ended up owning everything. Really it was intended by all parties originally involved that the headphone business was really owned by Monster, they brought on the iovine and dre as marketing. But the son of the Monster founder was a bad and desparate business man, Iovine peeped this and got him to sign a contract he shoulda went over with his lawyers better and the song ended up signing over all the rights to everything to iovine... the rest is history.

While true Beats By Dre might initially been Iovine's original proposition, Dr. Dre's image as a superstar producer & a hip hop legend is what makes the Beats By Dre products fly off the shelves. Now tell me how Beats by Jimmy Iovine headphones would have fared in the marketplace today?

:jawalrus::mjlol::lolbron::bryan::russ:

He helped popularize West Coast gangsta rap, especially a sub-genre called G-funk, and was one of the founding members of NWA (nikkaz With Attitude). His 1992 debut solo record, “The Chronic,” is a classic within the hip-hop pantheon. He’s also credited with launching the careers of Eminem and 50 Cent when he signed them to his record label, Aftermath Entertainment. His is the sort of cool that doesn’t fade in the wash.

Dr Dre could be upping Apple’s cool factor in $3.2 billion deal to buy Beats

You basically saying Dre made a great high priced hoe, you fukking idiot. Jimmy is the pimp... rofl @ idiots:deadmanny:

Dre's networth after this deal will be $600mil to $650mil (MAX) as he only owns 16% of the company (at MAX.. and I doubt its that... probably more like 8 to 10% or even less)

nah not at all

the headphones was actually Jimmy Iovine's idea, and they then worked on the beats thing together as partners

they're both co-founders
