Consider comfortablitly and mileage per tank.

I can't imagine driving anything else on some of the trips I take 5-600 miles in rapidly changing climates.

What kind of job is going to provide you with a fancy ride to drive 3 to 4 hours a couple times a week? The S8 is like $115,000?!?! What do you do?
Are you just driving yourself or what?
Depends.
If it's just me, no co-workers or clients. I would get an Audi TTS 2-door coupe.
If you have a lot of crap and people to transport, I would get a Toyota Land Cruiser.
If I have to drive in snow conditions in the winter in mountainous roads, I would get the Audi Allroad wagon.

If I really cared about mileage per tank, I would get some kind of fancy hydrid, like the Toyota Avalon Hybrid.

THAT'S EXACTLY MY SITUATION. I'M STUCK WITH FORDS THOUGH. GMC ACADIA IS PROBABLY WHAT I WOULD ROLL WITH. COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO KEEP ME HAPPY. IT HAS WIFI. NOT TOO MUCH OF A HEAD TURNER. FANCY SMANCY CARS ARE FUN FOR A BIT BUT MOVING THEM THROUGH TRAFFIC CAN BE A HASSLE SOMETIMES. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR CAR HAS A REPUTATION FOR SPEED.
