There's a lot of money in religion man.

Today I was on Barnes and Noble's website, looking at books to buy and TD Jakes has a book ranked 18th.

Has anyone read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak?
Or Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell?

Thinking about picking those two up.
I've had my eye on Midnight in Mexico by Alfredo Corchado but the interest has worn off.

What is the "Book of thief"about?

Houston to LA like I'm Robert Horry.
Regardless of whether or not you're religious, just from a pure useful life advice weekly seminar Joyce and Joel are great. I say the same thing about a lot of verses in the bible. I know that goes against the Coli narrative of hating anything and everything relating to god, but your loss :manny:

Olsteen is good at talking about regular things in life basically using common sense. He just sprinkles Jesus in there to make it a religious experience.. People eat it up cuz they too lazy to think on their own. They back to their sinful ways once it wears off.

That's the best description of the Joel Osteen experience I've ever heard.

You don't get how ppl who are preaching the word of God and positivity in general can be beloved?!?! :what:

Bro you mad cuz Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyers, etc outchere shining? Why you care so much that ppl like these ppl? :dwillhuh:

Where did you mix up "Joel Osteen" with "the word of God"???

I've heard him sprinkle Bible passages and the name "Jesus" into his sermon on occasion, but hell, Kanye West does that too and he's about as close to preaching the word of God as Joel Osteen is. That guy admittedly didn't know anything about the gospel when his daddy died and left him a church, and all he does is smile and act positive, preaching the same run-of-the-mill self-help crap you can get anywhere. A lot of the stuff he does and says actively contradicts the gospel of Jesus.

Osteen's done nothing but turn personal charisma and the Christian brand into a money-making factory for his own benefit.

Has anyone read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak?

Yeah, it's got a weird narration thing going on that annoyed me at first ("Death" is the narrator), but once you get into it it's a damn good book. fukking dark as hell though, as any WW2 book can be.

I think the reality of the situation is not so much depending on any earthly person to guide you through your spiritual walk with God. It is your responsibility to read the "Word" (the Bible) and get an understanding of what it says and what it's about for yourself. As much time as we spend doing other things, you can spend an hour a day reading the Bible and have read through it in a year or so. The whole point of life on earth is to seek out that daily relationship with God for yourself, not to depend on somebody else to lead you into it. Yes it's good to listen to people explain the Bible at times. In the end it comes down to whether you believed in, adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Yeshua (Jesus). In John 14:6 Yeshua says "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me." Meaning you can't go live with God the Father (after you die or when Yeshua comes back to take the believers home), unless you believe in His Son and do what His Son says to do......

Right now He's in Heaven preparing living spaces(mansions is what they are called in the Bible, and they are enormous)........In John 14:1-3 (Amplified Bible) Yeshua says "(1)Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me. (2) In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places (homes). If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you. (3) And when (if) I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also."

So what should we do while we're here on earth??? Well, do what Jesus says to do in the Word. Turn from sin, Believe in Him, Love one another, let other people know about Him through you, and get to know the history (the Bible) of Whom you believe in.

i know this is gonna sound crazy
but i have always enjoyed zig ziglar (rip) material
mostly audiotapes, but now it is all on youtube

it is dated circa 1975-1985, and he was a cornball
but he was a legit salesman before he got into being a professional speaker
he literally sold saladmaster cookware door to door
went from nearly being fired for ineptitude,,
to breaking all sales records for the entire company

his tapes were a mix of specific techniques re: sales, communicating, rapport
stories of self-improvement, professionalism, mindset, how to close a deal
it was inspiring- how hard he had worked on himself

anyway, he was a christian and would talk about it from time to time
but it was about 1% of his content
(apparently he wrote some books specifically about christianity-
but i only listened to his sales/professionalism material)
he didn't need the supernatural to back up his words
people would listen to him because he was a good sales professional
and brought a positive can-do attitude to the task at hand

the problem i have with some of these faith-based inspirational speakers
if that they had no life experience or success outside of their books and speeches
whereas someone like ziglar had decades of legit success before he charged a speaking fee
