people in here acting like he can't invest those millions into other business ventures or property

his discography is mid at best anyway, this isn't like r kelly selling his

This
Dudes have ZERO idea how much money he got from the sale and ZERO clue what he plans on doing with said money.

This brother has an Ivy League degree and has been in the game for almost 20 years and currently has multiple other massive revenue streams and business ventures generating for him.

:dahell:But he's the idiot because he won't let the Coli do his financial planning for him? HES the one who doesnt know what he's doing? His children's children's already do not have to work a day in their fxcking lives. This is merely a cashout to invest in something more secure that has an even greater potential value. He wouldnt make a move like this if he didnt have a plan for the money.

NP, based on Spotify numbers, they are at about 80k-100k a day in streams on that platform...they only peaked @ 4 Mil on Spotify once Prodigy died. A little under a milly streams on all platforms.
Dapped and Repped. :salute:
Surprised they don’t do more on Spotify because they have 3.7 million monthly listeners. Matter of fact, if they did 100k streams a day, and each stream was a different listener, that would still only be 3 million in a 30 day month?
Either way, just short of a million a day :wow:

If the price is right, nothing wrong with selling your masters imo. That's the whole point of owning your masters is to get paid from it. Yeah there's a chance one of his songs is used for some big ass ass commercial campaign or some shyt, but even if that were to happen it's not like he didn't make his money.

I'll add, i'm not super knowledgeable on the music business so i might be missing something big.

selling is rarely ever smart... number provided or not.
most of the placement, distribution, streaming, value that the company can get off you... you can get for yourself.

no problem with cashing out if thats what you want... but the only good thing really going, is that you can keep recording and they cant own the future
I always said do a 50/50 deal... where they do the groundwork and get paid... then you benefit from sitting back still. Maybe 60/40 70/30

I made the joke about this shyt last week...wait until you sell your shyt and then the metaverse has you performing in 3D for eternity, in cyber concerts :russ: with a multi billion dollar subscription model

A lot of big-time artists are doing this they must be privy to information the public is not
yea most musicians can't make money just chilling at home making music, they gotta hit the road and do deal after deal with people tryna fukk them over the whole way

they finally find a lane outside of music and typically fall back on making new music, which makes sense since you'd only make money off of it if you were touring and everybody aint tryna add all that superstar shyt to their lives.

sell all ya shyt for the equivalent of a supermax contract? :gucci: hell yea most people gonna do that, if you can't make that money work for you and your famliy generations after then no amount of money was gonna solve the problem.

yall really underestimate how many artists do NOT want to deal with music shyt, after a certain age and broadening your horizons they realize how fukked up the game is and just wanna take their money and move on to other shyt. That isn't a secret that they're keeping away from us, nikkas BEEN using the music business as a stepping stone and moving the fukk on :whew:

If the numbers are right, I don't see why this was a bad move.

It's clear many artists feel that they won't be able to recoup the money from their masters quick enough to maintain their lifestyle and/or move on to do other things.

It's not like every artist that owns their masters automatically becomes wealthy.

I'm sure JL's advisors have done all the present and future value analysis on his collection.

Tours canceled due to COVID. Streaming is not paying as much anymore.

Selling at 20% capital gains vs 30 something. Limited time only.

Might as well cash out now and start over.

Who is listening to warbling ass John Legend nowadays anyway.

Nothing fishy, just don't be shocked when you hear Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nothing to be fukked with being used to promote some corporate or political agenda that has nothing to do with the song.

This.... Listen... new music is trash basically and can't score a movie/commercial/whatever for the proper effect on the consumer/viewer.... It's a science to this.... and them folks know it

Gonna be a lot of long faces in here when streaming becomes more regulated and companies have to pay more than % of a penny per stream. Picture selling your catalog when streams become worth 3 to 5 cents per (or more) on multiple platforms :picard:

It’s always a long game to be played :sas1:

Seems like you basic bird in the hand is worth more than 2 in the bush.

I imagine the money made in this deal alone is enough for many lifetimes over and they’re going to know their own financial situation better than anybody here.
