Grand kids definitely should he survive that long.

That's if the family don't fukk it up like they 99% of time, especially black artist, for some reason.

Tru dat, nikka

U know yo shyt... u in the music biz?

No, just from the things that I've read through and consumed from ppl in the biz.

Like, thecoli litterally thinks the checks come in the mail. No, even YouTubers have to hire companies to make sure they getting what their owed from views across YouTube (compilations and shyt count, too). And those companies take chunks out the profits.

It's the opposite of passive income.

You still gotta promote it, too, because it's now old music. Jay-Z had to buy a damn streaming service and tell us it's his best album a million times to get ppl to listen to RD, again.

Ya know, just because, i’ll reply and continue

You’re missing the metaphor on some level

four restaraunts = his album catalog
His recipes = his writing credits
His danish and cupcakes = green light, ordinary people, the hits
His new recipes = the albums you dont listen to and wont next time he drops

again you are a baker (a recording artist) and make $1,000,000/yr (the amount doesnt matter) from your restaraunts. In fact, sometimes you actually let people use your recipes for their weddings and events (movies, nfts, soundtracks), and it works well but its tough to keep track of. And you’re a chef...you arent in the business of running a catering company...and in fact need to pay someone to manage it well, and someone to audit them.

this could go on forever...or your recipes could just be viewed as tired one day, or everyone decides your pastries dont taste well..or maybe you have a scandal and nobody goes to your catering company or bakery any more, and that dries up....

Or

i can give you $75,000,000 right now

is it still stupid?

No, because on here; if the white man can give you $100 million for something, it's got to be worth a guaranteed billion.

Not realizing this company he sold it to prolly has thousands of rights from different artist they can rely on.

They did the same thing to the Shay Butter dude. Hell, even Tom from MySpace made the right decision and toke the $550 million for it in 2005.

Look at MySpace today :mjlol:. People stopped using MySpace in like 2008.

The same company sold MySpace to Justin Timberlake for $35 million in 2011 :laff:

Justin Timberlake buys his own social network with Myspace investment

thecoli: "MySpace could've been the next TikTok."

Let me add to this.

even if you making stone cold profit of let's say $1.5 million after you pay everybody.

John Legend is 43. He'll have to have made that amount til he's 80 and still not equal to that $75 million.

Plus the concept of investment lost (I think that's what it's called) when he could used that $75 million he got NOW to grow into atleast another $75 million by the time he's 80. Now, he sold his catalogue in 2022 and is worth over $150 million.

They don’t use cakes and pastries as movie and commercial soundtracks. They don’t use pies as nfts or whatever new technology is around the corner.

&

Maybe I could’ve made the same deals with the cakes that the company buying my recipes would make.

Maybe I should’ve invested my pie money better or maybe made more bakeries instead of sitting on my c00n spirit light brite ass with my moonface Asian wife.

Translation: I don’t have an actual response to what he said but I wanna be right. I’ll talk about stuff that has nothing to do with cashing in on john legends life’s work.

Doesn’t selling his catalog make any proceeds from the sale marital property? At least holding on could’ve shielded his pre-marital assets.

they’re risk weighting future cash flows from the various streams that the catalog generates to determine what the present value is today and what they believe they should receive for it

Receiving that lump sum and reinvesting it derisks them.

Checked my Spotify dashboard, John is pulling in around 3 million streams a day, 90-100 milly a month....comes out to 360k but if we extrapolate those to the others(iTunes/Pandora/Amazon Music/Tidal, etc), give or take, that is 2 milly a month via streams.

But if he has to share songwriting/publishing credits, that could be a lot less.

His TV and Film credits probably are a bit more...
