How much that actually bring in?
Good question.
Apparently not enough to deter him from cashin in. :yeshrug:
I dont fault an artist for cashin in if it eliminates the middleman n gives them millions they can invest and get an even better return than their annual receipts from streams n such.
if the deal allows them to perfom/tour without restraint the better

bunch of emotional responses over here. but if a white artist did it, yall would be sucking them off

From what ive seen most of the white artists that did this were old well past there prime and in the final quarter of there life....

Why artists keep doing this? Don’t they want to keep their masters? Or maybe they don’t even own them to begin with. Maybe those contracts are all fukked up.

He makes crazy money just off being a judge on The Voice. The only thing more secure at NBC than John Legend is the peacock. He'll be ok. This is just one aspect of his career that he cashed out on. It's not as if he traded his ability to make music for this lump sum.

Artists are realizing that their catalog is no different than start-up companies and in many cases, those companies are designed to one day be bought out by a bigger company for a significant fee.

John Legend is far from broke.

Yep. He makes 13 million a year off the voice TV show alone. He doesn't music royalties anymore.

My Pops Forever RIP
You don’t know his finances. You don’t know his debt levels.
He's made $65 mil during the last 6 seasons of The Voice, has a net worth of $75 mil and has lifelong revenue streams just off his personality. He's no longer signed to Kanye and if he wants to make cover music for the rest of his life, nobody can stop him.

The artists who tend to sell their catalogs are not broke. Bruce Springsteen didn't cash out for $550 mil cuz times was hard. David Crosby was a notable exception to this where he said he sold it so he could make sure he didn't lose his home since Covid cost him the ability to get tour money. Shakira too I think. Most artists are selling at what they think is peak value.

A lot of big-time artists are doing this they must be privy to information the public is not
Yeah but they usually have discography deeper and have sold more than John legend. Also most are old as hell and just want the check

No artist makes $1 per stream :mjlol:

shyt even michael jackson was only getting $2 per album sold for Thriller.... that was one of the highest in music at that time.

That was $4 in 2020.

Streaming rates be bullshyt like $0.2625 which O don't even know wtf that means...like barely 30cent? :wtf:

Streaming industry/360 deals making these record label ceos and bosses way more money

From understanding these companies buying the music have a system in place to where they know how to get placements for the music.

In the future would you want to leave that job for your kids?

How much money would John Legend music really make 20-30-50 years down the line? :patrice:

These artists are privy to information the general public is not....it clearly makes sense to them to take that upfront cash.

This is what Im thinking

Bank says yo house worth 100k, however we gone pay u 200k up front

Then they sell it for 1 M.... the thing is they had the leverage to sell it for 1 M, u didnt, n the best u could sell it for was 200K

Dont mean u lost, u still made a profit

But the bank had the ability to sell it for a million, u didnt

Simple
