I never understood this shyt. Rap music is entertainment. It's an escape from reality like books, movies, etc. That's like telling Stephen King not to write books about monsters or telling Tarantino not to make violent movies. Nobody ever does that. It's a double standard just cause these artists are usually young black males. It's not up to them to raise your damn kids, blame shytty parents for not teaching their kids the difference between a rap song and real life.

Jojo is a fukking idiot

How the fukk he gonna praise Lyor Cohen as helping to build hip hip culture

When Lyor is responsible for a majority of this TRAP MUSIC today .....

Lyor is the one signing checks to the MIGOS...YOUNG THUG and FETTY WAP

Sounds like some hypocritical east coast bias cause in the same voice he DISSES Jimmy Iovine saying he didn't contribute like lyor and Tom Silverman

When it was JIMMY who was responsible for bringing deals to DR DRE...TDE....and the whole DEATH ROW

JO JO NEEDS TO STFU

maybe the parents arent around cuz they died in the trap

i feel like your excuse is just as much horseshyt as the article though:yeshrug:(no shots).

its always the defacto response when someone points out that there might be an issue with music that has a consistently negative message possibly having an impact on people's modes of thinking.

is rap entertainment? sure.

do people take it seriously on all ends of the spectrum? sure.

but does that mean we should disregard public enemy's music as not real, and simply entertainment too?

i think people attack the trap shyt so heavily these days, because its so prevalent. its everywhere and the majority of kids who wanna rap, gravitate to that format/content. the balance in rap is barely there any more. nikkas aint making black star albums, 'self-destruction' posse cuts or really preaching any kind of knowledge no more, and when they do, nikkas call it corny/a flop and cast it aside.

white people fukk with that positive rap more than nikkas do, and thats the music thats trying to tell us that this gangster shyt is just entertainment, and to not get lost in the sauce (as gucci so illustriously put it).

nikkas in rap are pretty obsessed with the 'trap lifestyle' regardless of if they came from it or not, hence NY nikkas talking about traps and bandos and shyt.

and its rare that any of these trap rappers talk about the shyt openly and candidly, to give you the balance of the good and the bad, its just glorifying the shyt. and regardless of who's parents are around, that shyt has an impact. its all marketing a product, like anything else. our parents prolly knew that Jordans was overpriced bullshyt, but did we still want them?

i 100% think parents should be around to tell kids whats what, but we already know thats not the case for alot of people.

so thats an option thats cast out the window. is it up to the rapper to raise kids? hell naw, but i think rappers should be genuine in whatever they make. no one rapping about this shyt was ever 'the plug' or a kingpin of any sort, so dont front

my b yall, but outkast told us exactly what the trap was in spottieottiedopealicious. i barely heard a rapper since talk it about it like that on record. its just the spot where they fukk bytches, count money sip lean and serve fiends

My dude if every rapper rapped about their real life, that shyt would be boring as hell, keep it real. I would say 99% of all rap is a fabricated lifestyle. Do you blame actors when they star in action movies? I don't get this argument. You're other point about kids not having parents is true but they are completely separate issues.

not really breh, but we can agree to disagree

all i really meant to say is, give both sides if youre gonna rap about that life. cuz its not all good, and that part gets left out, when it doesn't have to be. that honesty more often than not, makes for the best music anyways.

and also, the lack of balance in music is prolly contributing to people feeling how jojo does. its easy to see both sides of the argument really. but to cast aside the argument like music has absolutely 0 culpability is short sighted IMO
