Because he's a traffic cone on the other end of the court
While Jokic may not be an elite defender, I’m not sure it’s true that he’s a terrible defender.

@Gil Scott-Heroin has made insightful points about how the Nuggets poor perimeter defense has put Jokic in no-win situations at the rim.

I’m not saying he’s a Rudy Gobert level rim protector but “traffic cone” sounds extreme.

Had Jokic been the first to do it since Oscar then there would probably be more fanfare.

I can’t listen to some screaming guy.
I’m not trying to dismiss your argument.

I’ll just say that I think he’s probably closer to an average defender than a horrible one.

Defense can be very difficult gauge because it can be dependent on other players. Very seldom does defense come down to defending a man 1 on 1. Often they’re guarding in a way where they’re anticipating 2-3 passing lanes which puts stress on any 1 guy. I think that’s why it can look like players today don’t play defense (especially when people try to compare eras) but the demands are greater now.

SGA deserves MVP but I wouldn't hate on anyone saying it should be Joker again. Another incredible year from him. Stats in this era are a bit inflated and Russ doing it before him take away some of the steam from the achievement
