The Spurs last night made it a point to get to the basket. They got points against everyone in the paint. And they had to, because they just don't have the perimeter shooting to compete. Not from a volume perspective, anyway. It was fun to watch the Spurs win, since it seems inevitable that further tanking won't move them below the Rockets in the standings.
It's clear now, though, that the narrative against Jokic winning a 3rd consecutive MVP is coalescing around his defense (or better stated, how un-pretty his defense is). And it's ignoring everything else he's doing offensively and with distributing the basketball.
For whatever it's worth, Jokic still leads the NBA in defensive plus/minus.

No, it still is. That's why every championship team you can name has an elite defense, even over the past few years.
If you've watched the Nuggets since December, Jokic has played some pretty good defense in most games. Is he an ELITE defender? Hell no. But he is solid when he gives the effort and moves his feet.
They began the season 28th in defense and now they're 13th.
The whole Nuggets team the last two nights have been LAZY as hell on that end.

Defense from the 5 is more important. If you can’t protect the rim or guard in space as a 5…I don’t see how you win a title.

I understand offense sells tickets and gets ratings…but if you want to be called an elite big, then you can’t be trash on defense
